Wakefield 2000

Mike Wilson of the Wakefield Acorn Computer Group previews May's show.

The Wakefield Acorn Computer (User) Group is very proud to announce that Wakefield 2000, the group's fifth annual show, will take place over the weekend of the 20/21st May 2000. The show is sponsored by Acorn User, Castle Technology, Cerilica and RiscStation.

Once again, the show will be held in the Thornes Park Athletics Stadium, Horbury Road, Wakefield. The venue is easy to reach by both car and public transport, being about one mile from the M1 and half a mile from the main Wakefield railway station.

The show will be open between 10.00am and 5.30pm on Saturday and between 10.15am and 4pm on Sunday. Holders of pre-booked tickets will be admitted 15 minutes earlier on both days.

Other attractions

In addition to all the major players in the re-vitalised RISC OS market, the attractions will include a show theatre, a games arcade and a charity stall selling all kinds of donated computer equipment and software. Other attractions include free car parking close to venue and catering at down-to-earth prices, plus a licensed bar. The venue is set in open parkland and, if the weather is fine, there is a children's playground and minature steam railway available just outside the hall to keep families entertained.

Wakefield is a small, but lively city with hotels and B&Bs at prices to suit all tastes. The nightlife in Westgate at weekends has to be experienced to be believed. The Wakefield Acorn Computer Group was formed in 1983 and, in addition to being among the largest regional RISC OS user groups, has the proud record of never having missed a monthly meeting since formation.

Wakefield 2000 is a truly friendly enthusiasts show which is entirely organised by volunteers from WACG. It is well established as a premier, if not the premier, exhibition for the Acorn/RISC community.
