The Font Menu
If you install a large number of fonts on your system, a vertical scroll bar will appear on the font menu allowing you to scroll through them all. The default font in Ovation is SwissB (see Chapter 9 for details of how to change the default font). The Font menu is only available when a text box is active. Please note that the fonts shown in the menu above, are not necessarily the same as those supplied with Ovation. What is a font?A font is a complete set of alphabetic and numerical characters, punctuation marks and other symbols of matching style and size. A list of all the characters in a typical font is given in Appendix C. Each font is given a name, e.g. Palatino, and can be printed at various sizes. Some fonts that are often used in desktop publishing are shown below:Avant Garde Courier Bookman Zapf Chancery Helvetica New Century Schoolbook Palatino abcdefghijk (Symbol) Times a!$^14678 = (Zapf Dingbats) Font FamiliesMost fonts are supplied in families usually consisting of normal, bold, italic and bold italic versions of the font. In Ovation variations such as bold and italic are chosen from the Style menu (described later in this chapter).Choosing a FontIf no text is marked when a font is chosen, any characters subsequently typed in will be displayed in the chosen font. If a block of text is marked when a font is chosen, all the marked text is changed to the chosen font. If the caret is repositioned elsewhere in the document, any characters typed will appear in the font specified for that particular location in the document. If a block of text is marked, the Font menu will show a tick beside the font that is used in the marked text. If the marked text uses a number of fonts, the menu will indicate only the first font to appear in the marked block. If no text is marked, the font in use at the caret will be indicated on the font menu.
Please note that the Font menu is also used for defining and editing Paragraph Styles˜please refer to Chapter 9 for further details.
